Back From JDC In One Piece
This weekend was the Jersey Devil Convention in Edison, NJ. I was a guest this year, on four panels. I actually ended up doing only two, partly because of stupidity, and partly out of exhaustion. I'll elaborate.
Friday night was my first panel. Mary SanGiovanni and I got there a little before six. I had to rush to make my panel in time. It was on tragic endings v. happy endings. Met some really nice people on the panel and had some great discussions. Of course there were only 3 people in the audience, but we all had fun anyway. After that it was time to get some dinner. Mary and I accompanied some friends from the GSHW to the hotel restaurant. Good conversation kept us there awhile. My next panel was at 10, so I figured we had plenty of time to BS. About 9:45 Mary and I head back towards the panels to wait for my next one. I glance at the schedule to see what I was following only to realize that I am a complete ass and my panel had been at 9, not 10. So I missed it. It was on urban legends too, something I know a lot about. So I was really bummed that I missed it. Mary didn't have a panel until 11, so we headed to the bar to make myself feel better.
At the bar we ran into another author whom I had shared a panel with hours earlier. Turns out he was on Mary's next panel. So we BSed and had a few drinks. We stumbled to their panel just in time and had a blast. It was one hell of a panel and I had a great time shouting from the audience. heh heh
After that it was back to the bar where we proceeded to get loopy with other authors. At about 2:00 a.m. we decided we should probably split. I got home at about 2:30 and passed out. Unfortunately I had to go into the pit on Saturday because I took last Tuesday off. I got to work about 9 and trudged through my work. I got out about 1:30, went straight home, then went straight back to the con, this time my hubby accompanied me. I had a reading at 4 which I think went rather well. Then I headed up to the dealer's room and got myslef a plush Cthulhu doll and a little t-shirt that says, "You don't need to look at my chest. This is not the chest you are looking for. Move along." Anyone who knows me knows how perfect the shirt is for me. :) I wanted to wear it to my panel that night, but ended up back at the bar for awhile and forgetting to change. Mary came later in the evening and I went to her panels. Then it was time for my last panel of the night. It was on erotic horror. That was a blast and a half. We had a full house (I wonder why) and had a great discussion. Afterwards the hubby was pooped and hungry, so we set off for a diner then headed home.
Sunday I was supposed to go back for an afternoon panel, but I was so exhausted from the past few days that I slept in too late and missed it. Mary wasn't able to go with me anyway and my hubby was out at band practice. I really wasn't in the mood to make the drive myself. So I feel bad for ditching, but what can you do? Anyhoo, I had created a new chapbook for this convention, but I don't think I sold any. I'll have to check with whoever was watching the table on Sunday. But if you're interested, it's a poetry chapbook. Available through my website (soon) for $3. I've been trying to update my site but there seems to be an issue that I haven't been able to figure out yet. So if you want a chapbook, just email me at horrorwriterchick@yahoo.com and we'll work it out.
I'd leave you with another test and a word for the day, but I've already taken up enough space. :) I'll be back with more later this week. Until then, be good little boys and girls!
