Join Me In A Moment Of Prayer

A few months ago I went to a bone marrow drive at Kimi's school. One of our parishoners, a fifth grade boy, was suffering from leukemia and none of his siblings matched his marrow type. A bone marrow transplant was his only hope, so the whole community got together and over 500 people showed up to be tested. Unfortunately, none of us matched, but another donor in the database ended up being a partial match, so little Thomas Peterpaul underwent the transplant.

Last night at about 10 PM I got a phone call from the teacher Kimi had last year. She told me that Thomas had passed away. We all knew there was a slim chance of the transplant working, but the news hit my family like a Mac truck. I looked at my kids and was overwhelmed by sadness. I can only imagine what the Peterpaul family is going through.

He was diagnosed early last year, went into remission, then relapsed. I saw him at the marrow drive, he was in a wheelchair, laughing and talking to everyone. He was such a sweet boy. Last night before bed we all said a prayer for Thomas, and I hope you all will too. Pray especially for his family, because they are going through one of the worst times a family could ever have.

Eerily he died at 9:11 PM on 9/11. Doubly eery for me because Andre was born at 9:11 PM.

Sorry for the depressing blog, but felt it necessary to do something, however small, to preserve the memory of Thomas Peterpaul. God bless you little child, where you are there is no more pain.
