Back From Horrorfind In One Piece
Had me a lovely time at the Third Annual Horrorfind Weekend, even though I'm still not feeling 100% and was unable to get drunk, like I usually do at cons. :)
Speaking of me being ill...it has come to my attention that those who do not know me so well might think that there is something seriously wrong with me. Well, besides being a mental case. No, I'm not dieing of cancer or anything like that. My illness is due to the fact that I am in the early stages of pregnancy. I didn't want to make the announcement until I was safely in my second trimester, but it's very obvious to some people, especially to those who know me. I spent the weekend at a con completely sober, that's hard to hide.
Anyhoo, I'm in my 8th week now, or thereabouts. I'll know more on the 21st when I see my baby doc for the first time. But I've been suffering from a rare kind of morning sickness that ended up putting me in the emergency room twice for dehydration. It happens in about 1 out of 200 pregnancies. Lucky me. I'm on medication now so that I can keep food and water down...but still feel crappy most of the time. I'm always tired, my stomach always feels sick, and I lack the energy to do most anything. This weekend was fun, but it took a lot out of me.
For example, I had tickets for Ozzfest today. My husband went with a friend. I decided to stay home. I'm exhausted from the weekend and don't think I would have much enjoyed myself out there in the heat all day without anywhere comfortable to sit down. (We had lawn seats.) So I'm bummed that I'm missing the show, but shit happens.
To answer a question that might be on some of your minds, no this baby wasn't planned. It is quite a surprise. Considering we have no money, it's not exactly a perfect situation, but since when has anything been easy for me? heh We're dealing with it the best we can. I'm excited about the baby, I love children. This may not be the best time, but it is what it is. Can't do much about it now. So I'm afraid the convention hopping days have to be put on hold for now and I'm going to have to put severe hours in at home to come up with enough cash to live on, so I may not be around as much as I normally am.
I'm still writing in spurts, but even that has to fall by the wayside as I prepare for the new member of the family. It won't be easy, but it's worth it. I've been through much harder situations and came out ok.
Ok, enough about that, I'm droning on today. Let's get back to Horrorfind. Lesse...Friday night I had a reading with Mary SanGiovanni and Marcy Italiano. I read a few poems from my new chapbook, MORBID MUSINGS. I think it went well. I sold a couple of copies. Went out to dinner with some of my favorite people in the biz and had a blast, even though it took an hour for us to be seated.
Saturday I got to meet Bill Mosely (Otis from House of 1000 Corpses) and got his autograph on my DVD, as well as a great picture of him from the movie. He's a real nice guy. That night I got to go to a staff and celebrity party (Fran worked the con) and talked to Doug Bradley (Pinhead), Gunner Hansen (Leatherface), Ken Foree (Dawn of the Dead), and the infamous Alice Cooper. That was very cool. That party alone made trudging through the weekend worth it. :)
I bought a few books but didn't really get much from the dealers room. Money was tight. But I did make a list of a bunch of stuff for people to track down for me for my b-day and Christmas. heh heh heh
Sunday I went to a couple of readings and roamed the dealers room until it was time to hit the road. A much more subdued weekend for me than usual, but I still had a great time. Got to hang out with a lot of good friends and meet some new ones. Next year I plan on bringing both the new baby and my 8 year old. I think it's time to get the whole family involved in the beauty that is the horror genre. heh
That's enough babbling for now. I'm thoroughly pooped. Time for a nap. Till next time...
