Killing Time And Updating The Masses
Ok, so I wouldn't call the five of you who actually read this blog "The Masses" but it sounded catchy.
Anyhoo, little less than an hour to go here at work, so I figured I'd kill the time by letting you all know what's been up the last few days. We're slowly recovering from the loss of Clifford. Poe seems to be handling it ok. He's eating and drinking fine, but he has been a lot more affectionate. Usually he's the kind of cat that only likes to be loved on his schedule. But since Wednesday he's let us snuggle him, and he's been coming up to us more often. He always sleeps in bed with me, but usually at my feet. The past few nights he's actually tried to sleep ON me.
Had an interesting incident on Friday night. A couple of my co-workers took me out to dinner for my b-day. When I got home, Fran was passed out on the couch. I walked into the dining room and something caught my eye. I walked over to it and discovered it was a dead mouse. Poe was laying down about 5 inches from it. I hate it when I find mice. I know the cat was only doing what instinct tells him to do and I never yell at him for it. I just feel so awful for the poor little mice. This hasn't happened in awhile, but I guess the rain brought it in.
At any rate, I wake up Fran (because despite my "tough" image, I am a total girl when it comes to dead rodents) and tell him we need to get rid of the mouse corpse. I took a closer look, and it's front paw started twitching. It was still alive...barely. So of course I freaked. Now I felt worse. The poor thing was suffering. Neither Fran nor I could kill it ourselves. I could take out a human in a heartbeat...if I had to, but an animal? Not so much. Fran tossed it into the backyard and figured one of the strays would finish it off. I still cling to the hope that the twitching was just a reaction and that it really was dead. Blech!
So last night I went into the city for a World Horror Convention committee meeting. (By the way, that's fast approaching! April 7th through the 10th at the Park Central Hotel in NYC! Details here: www.whc2005.org You should all go!) Afterwards Fran and a few friends met me for dinner and drinks to, again, celebrate my birthday. (Yeah, I celebrate for weeks.) We ended up at the Rodeo Bar & Grill. Good food...good times...and a giant stuffed buffalo staring down at us as we ate.
Today I go to my brother's house after work for the family party. This will be the last celebratory day for my birthday. It's been a good one. I got money, gift certificates, the Nirvana boxed set, and Garden State and The Simpson's Treehouse of Terrors on DVD. I wonder what I'll get today? heh heh heh
So, that's been my life the past couple of days. I may have some good news on the job front very soon, but it's too early to say anything. Just keep your fingers crossed for me.
Well, there's still a half hour left, but if I keep typing like this I'm going to bore you guys into comas.
