WHC Report

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had this whole post almost finshed when I accidentally hit something to make it all disappear. Sigh. So, now you're going to get a condensed version because I don't have the time or patience to go through all that again.

I'm going to start by giving one shout out to everyone who made my weekend (and helped to keep me semi-sane): Matt Schwartz (for your support and friendship, always), Jim Moore (for making me write and for your amazing hugs), Jack Fisher (for your hilarious drunken ass), Val & Diane (for reminding me why I go to these things in the first place), Matt & Deena Warner (for the conversations and laughs), Jonathan Reitan (for your box lugging and awesome drunken conversations), Mark McLaughlin (for making me spew drinks out of my nose on more than one occassion), the entire WHC committee & volunteers (because you felt it just as bad, if not worse, than I did), F. Paul Wilson (thanks for taking half my chips!), Tom Monteleone (thanks for trying to make me feel like less of a loser when I was the first one out at the poker tournament), Joe Lansdale (for letting me babble and ramble about your brilliance), Peter Straub (for holding the door for me and picking up my cigarettes when my drunk ass couldn't seem to hold on to them), Brian Keene (for the pastrami sandwhich and pep talks), Eddie "Feo Amante" McMullen (for your company, conversation, and bartending skills), Mary SanGiovanni (too many wonderful things to list, you know what they are), Kelly Laymon (for your ability to make me snarf), Lisa & Lloyd (for actually coming out to witness the insanity, even if it was only for a day...heh), Mikey Huyck aka Gimpy (for the many, many, many laughs), Monica (for letting me be a part of this and for putting this thing together), Lee Thomas (for the love, laughs, and "ahem" smoke breaks), Gina & Jane O. (you guys kick way more ass than a donkey), Nicole Thomas (I enjoyed many a cigarette and conversation), Greg F. (the best damn volunteer on the planet), and to everyone else who took the time to ask what I needed, talked me down, or just let me ramble. This list is not in any particular order, nor is it nearly complete. I owe so much to so many of you. Thank you for making this the most memorable con I've ever attended. And if anyone needs a volunteer for a future con...don't even think about asking me!

One of my most memorable moments had to be playing the celebrity charity poker tournament. I swear, I'm never that bad at home! Hell, somebody had to go out first, might as well be me. I needed a cigarette anyway. ;) Another moment was talking with Joe "my idol" Lansdale and getting my many books signed at the mass signing. Of course the massive partying on Friday night was fun. Way too much absinthe and rum and coke...but from what I can remember, I had a great time! The Leisure party (though I didn't drink) was a blast as well. I may be a sucky bartender...but I enjoyed talking with everyone there! The Gross Out Contest kicked ass too! I loved being a bouncer...I intend to put that one on my resume. heh Congrats to the big winners...I STILL feel queasy. The charity auction on Sunday was great too! Thanks, Matt, for letting me be a part of it! I came away with even MORE great Joe Lansdale books, and a promotional zippo from the upcoming Masters of Horror series (check out Showtime for more details!).

All in all, a good con. I'm exhausted and the hotel frustrated me plenty. But I'm glad for the experience. Of course if I am ever stupid enough to agree to be on a convention committee again, I damn well am gonna be demanding cash! hehehehehehehehehe

I'm pooped (this is the second freaking novelesque post I've done on this) so I'm gonna close it up. I have more news to share, but it can wait. Again, thanks to all the staff and attendees of the 2005 World Horror Convention. You've helped to make a LONG lasting impression. :)

~Meg
