Meghan Fatras -- Pop Star
Ok, you can stop laughing now. :) No I didn't run to try out for the next American Idol (I'm too old anyway!). But I will admit to watching the show. I watched it last season as well. I decided to tune in because the commercials had some Brit bashing dumbasses who thought they could actually sing. I thought it was hilarious. But I kept watching because I was curious to see how America would react to these so-called stars.
I think they got it right last year, for the most part. There were a couple who should never have made it to the final 10, and a couple who were booted off way too soon. But in the end it worked out.
This year I tuned in again for the same reason. (Gotta love Simon!) But this year I saw a sort of transformation. Last year, most heavy-set individuals were not given a shot at the final 10, even those who were CLEARLY very talented. This year, several full-figured contestants made it through, I'm guessing last year people got pissed about the whole "image" thing. However, the contestant that I thought had the best voice, hands down, was booted from the show before she had a shot at the final 10 because she posed on a website, 5 years ago, in lingerie. Ummm...huh? Meanwhile last year they let a stripper into the final ten and this year they had a convicted shoplifter in the finals. Makes a whole lot of friggin sense. But in the end it does come down to the best two, I think. Neither is the typical image that goes with pop star. I think America is paying more attention to talent than looks, maybe the record execs will wake up. Yeah right! I fully expect more carbon copies of Brittany Spears and Justin Timberlake. These no talent shits who basically keep rewriting their own songs because they have no idea what they are doing, but look pretty on the cover of magazines. I don't think that trend is really going anywhere.
So in keeping with the American Idol theme, here it is, another one of my results from www.emode.com. This one was, "What Kind of Pop Star Are You?" I am:
Deep 'n Soulful
You project a cool, intellectual vibe, and your friends and family are probably often impressed (and maybe a little intimidated) when you wax philosophical. You may be a little more serious than most of today's pop stars, but your thoughtful, artistic persona adds a level of mystery and sophistication that your fans are sure to find irresistible.
Pop stars like you prefer small, intimate venues to big stadium shows. That's because you really want to connect with people in an authentic way. When it comes to your style, you should veer toward simple and straightforward — you don't want to distract anyone from your music or your meaning. Black turtleneck or sleeveless shell and casual pants? Sounds good. If you want a bit more flash, showcase your personality through a wild pair of shoes, cool coat, or accessories like that to-die-for bracelet. To those who really get you, your basic attire will only make your passionate and profound nature burn more brightly.
Hmmm...I guess it's better than being "dumb and conforming" like most pop stars of today. :)
Until next time...look for my CD in all major record stores. heh
