My Thoughts On Boobgate And The News
An 11-year-old girl's kidnapping turns up on a surveillance camera and days later she is found dead. But what is the top story every friggin' day on the news? Janet Jackson's freakin' nipple! I've seen a lot of blogs start out pretty much the same way lately. So if so many people are outraged by the attention Boobgate is getting, why is it still such a hot story?
I had a rough morning yesterday. I had to explain to my daughter what rape was (The basketball players at St. John's event), what it meant for someone to be gay (all the talk about legalizing gay marriages...which, by the way, I'm all for), and how it's possible that a little girl walking home from a friend's house can turn up dead (little Carlie from Fla.). All this was from watching less than an hour of the news before heading off to work/school. People are complaining that their kids were traumatized by seeing a nanosecond flash of PART of Jackson's breast. I was watching, I didn't see anything at all. Meanwhile, parents think nothing of watching the news in front of their kids. Between explaining rape and kidnapping to my nine-year-old and having her see part of a nipple, I'll take the nipple! (She didn't bother asking about Boobgate, it's a shame, because that would have been so much easier to answer.)
There is so much going on in the world today of such immense importance. I'm so sick of the media concentrating on superbowl flashes, celebrity breakups, and Liza Minelli beating up her ex-husband. Just goes to show you what the people in this country really care about. Hell, I even read that some moron is suing Jackson and Timberlake because she was subjected to a vulgar halftime show. Give me a fucking break! What kind of a world am I bringing this child into? It makes me so sad, and so afraid for the future.
