Back In One Piece

Sorry this post is a bit delayed, but I've been exhausted. I may not have been doing the driving, but this weekend certainly kicked my ass. I had so much fun though, I sorely needed it.

The drive down took about 11 hours. We hit traffic due to construction and made a few stops. But we cruised through VA without a problem. I half expected the world to implode. heh. We (Fran, Markus, and I) basically just BSed and listened to music. The ride went rather smoothly and it wasn't until the last hour that Fran started getting punchy. He started spouting random things and laughing like a lunatic. Markus and I were just a tad frightened. But we got to the hotel at about midnight and hit the sack. The room was nice, king size bed and a big shower. All was right with the world.

We got up the next morning, hit the free continental breakfast, and decided to check out the area. We did some shopping and just drove around. Let me tell you something about NC...every 5 feet there is some sort of pork store. Everywhere we looked were signs pointing out BBQ pork sandwhiches and the like. Them Southerners sure do like their pig! Oh, and in between every pig joint, was a Waffle House. Pigs and waffles...can't go wrong there!

We hit the wedding at about 2:30. Matt was looking so dapper in his suit! :) The guests were wearing everything ranging from jeans to dresses. It was very casual, and a very friendly atmosphere. The altar was comprised of bails of hay (or as Matt would say after a few...hails of bay) pumpkins, and even a little crow. The ceremony was just beautiful...and the bride...stunning. Yes, I felt tears roll down a bit....I'm such a sap! After the ceremony we all went out back for a real southern BBQ. Now I understand the obsession with pig. I had a shredded pork BBQ sandwhich that made my knees buckle. Mmmmmmmmmmmm. Plus there was BBQ slaw, potato salad, baked beans, and banana pudding. Top it off with a glass of sweet tea and I was in heaven! The chocolate wedding cake kicked ass too! Matt and Deena sure know how to throw a party!

The whole shindig was outdoors and the weather held up beautifully. The house sat on acres of wooded property, complete with a nature trail. So after we ate we took off for the trail...it was absolutely breathtaking. Fran discovered that he loves crochet (did I spell that right?) and Deena kicked ass at Bachi ball (did I spell that right?). We were treated to live music by some of the tipsy ladies...who had gorgeous voices, and even I got into the act and sang Me and Bobby McGee by Janice Joplin. And I wasn't even drunk!

Got to hang out with Lee Cushing, James Newman, Don Gash, Bill Barnett and his lovely wife Eva, and some new friends as well. It was one of the best weddings I've ever been to and so worth the trip.

We left for home about 10ish on Sunday morning. We stopped off at J&R Tobacco for cheap cigarettes and souveniers, had lunch at Cracker Barrel, and ended up back in Jersey at about 8:30. We survived the trip, again passing through VA without incident, and I crashed HARD. All in all, an excellent trip.

So there you have it...my full report. I just want to say congrats again to Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Warner. May your lives be full of love, fun, and all the best things in life! You guys really are made for each other and I'm so happy to have been able to be a part of your big day! Also, many thanks to Markus for putting up with Fran and I on the road, and once again keeping us from killing each other. You will always be our road trip buddy! And a HUGE thanks to the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lineberger, for opening your home to all of us and being such gracious hosts!

That's all for now. Later!
